 Dyslexia Writing Help

.
If you have Dyslexia and feel that you need some help with your writing then this page is for you, as good Dyslexia writing help can be hard to find. Society is a big stippler for correct spelling and grammar. Any errors can cause some people to judge you incorrectly. Over the years technology has developed helping me get through my adult education, working and personal life.

Below are some of my tips that I have learnt along the way.
I hope they can help you......

Editing Tips

  • Read out loud - I read all my writing out loud before I send or submit, even if I think I have seen all typos. I read aloud EVERY word once my editor sends me back my final manuscript for approval. This is paramount before I send any final manuscript off to be published.
  • Proof read - Get someone to proof anything important or public emails. I would ask my colleges at work to have a quick read of any emails that needed to be word perfect. This is good practice for everyone, not just dyslexics.
  • Walk away - If there is no one to proof my email or work before I send or submit I will save it and walk away. Leave it for at least 30 minutes, this is because your brain knows what you have written and can fail to see typos and spelling errors.
  • Draft Email - When I am on my own writing an article or blog post, and I don't have the time to leave it for 30 minutes, I cut and past my writing into an email and email it to myself. I read this email on my phone in front of my laptop. The screen looks different and my brain thinks its reading new information can spots typos better, I can then correct them as I read.
Spelling Tips / Typos
  • iPhone microphone -  So you know the word but not the spelling. You tap it into your phone knowing its wrong but hopping predictive text will correct it, but it doesn't!... There is a mic icon on most smart phones that will let you talk into the phone and will type for you. You can find it on an iPhone next to the space key. I use this a lot if I want to spell something I cant, (and if i'm being really lazy and cant be bothered to type)

  • You might miss seeing the typos, but you never miss hearing them! text to speak apps. You cut your text into an app and it plays it out as speech. Now you can hear your typos. I cut my writing into an app called speechify, I do this with emails, blog post and even my writing drafts.

Spell check - Does what it says. Beware though; spell check can select the wrong "corrected" word.

Study Tip
  • "For Audio learners" (meaning you remember better when you hear something)
  • Read the study text out loud and highlight or make notes as normal. Then dictate your notes into your Dictaphone (all smart phones will have this app as standard). You can then revise your notes on the go.

I can't thank you enough.  The conversation was ripe full great information.  I'll be talking with my agent soon after he comes back from his honeymoon about number of key takeaways.

Coaching review
I love to read books and this book lived up to my expectations, if not more. I loved the first book gut feeling and was so pleased when seeing a new book was out by this author.
